Vancouver, Canada—January 4, 2011—UBC Civil Engineering adjunct professor David Halliday has been appointed a member of the Order of Canada in recognition of his outstanding achievements and lifetime of service to the country.
He is honored for advancing the field of astronomy, notably through his leadership in the design and construction of some of the world’s largest telescope observatories.
The Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours, was established in 1967 to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation.
His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, announced Halliday’s appointment to the Order of Canada on Dec. 30, 2010.
